NCTPA Transportation Speaker Program - Dates and Venues

1.  Wednesday, May 16 – Napa City Council Chambers – 6:30 – 8:00 pm
Richard J. JacksonAdjunct Professor, UC Berkeley School of Public Health.
Teaching:  PH 298 Public Health and the Built Environment
Research:  Health policy as it is shaped by housing, transportation, agricultural, environmental, economic policy.

Reid Ewing – National Center for Smart Growth
Research and Associate Professor, University of Maryland
Ewing has written books for the major planning and development organizations: Developing Successful New Communities for the Urban Land Institute; Best Development Practices and Transportation and Land Use Innovations for the American Planning Association; and Traffic Calming State-of-the-Practice for the Institute of Transportation Engineers.
Ewing holds master degrees in Engineering and City Planning from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in Transportation Systems and Urban Planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Transportation for Livable Communities & Housing Incentive Program
In 1998, MTC launched the Transportation for Livable Communities (TLC) program. Since then, MTC has awarded over $80 million dollars to more than 80 local projects that support multimodal travel, more livable neighborhoods and the development of jobs and housing in existing town centers. Successful projects improve walking and bicycle access to public transit hubs and stations, major activity centers and neighborhood commercial districts as a way of fostering community vitality. The program provides technical assistance and capital grants to help cities, neighborhoods, transit agencies and nonprofit agencies develop transportation-related projects fitting the TLC profile.

The Marin County Bicycle Coalition (MCBC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit membership organization that was founded in 1998 to unite bicycle enthusiasts throughout Marin County. Their mission is to promote safe bicycling for everyday transportation and recreation

Mike Jones – Alta Planning and Design
Alta is one of North America's leading firms specializing in progressive transportation planning, design, and implementation. They focus on multi-modal solutions, particularly bicycle, pedestrian and trail corridors and systems.

Alta provides a full range of services including master plans, corridor plans, project design, construction documents and observation, sign plans, plan updates, technical assistance, school safety studies, training, bicycle parking design, bicycle/pedestrian integration with transit, environmental review and documentation.

Rick Williams –Rick Williams Consulting,   Portland, Oregon
Parking & Transportation Demand Management Consulting, small town Smart Growth issues.
Rick is an expert in parking and transportation demand management. He has been a leader over the past 25 years in the progressive planning and growth management of Portland's parking and transit infrastructure. Rick was instrumental in the development and management of Portland's SmartPark garage system, the FreePark validation program and several other high profile parking and transportation initiatives in Portland and other cities in the Northwest.

These public meetings are part of the Napa County Transportation and Planning Agency's (NCTPA) "Napa's Transportation Future" initiative, a project to update the County's Strategic Transportation Plan, with special funding help from Caltrans (the California Department of Transportation).

Public input will be included in recommendations to the NCTPA Board of Directors in mid-2008.
